We welcome motivated students and postdocs with backgrounds in physics, maths, or related fields. We combine theory, simulation, and experiment across quantum communications, light–matter interfaces, quantum simulation, quantum computation, and photonic quantum information processing.

Open Tracks

Postdoctoral Researchers
  • PhD (completed/near completion) in physics, maths or related fields.
  • Lead subprojects, publish, present, and mentor junior members.
  • Funding: NRC/NSERC grants, Banting, Mitacs Elevate, etc.
  • Start: Rolling, typically 3–12 months lead time.
PhD Students
  • BSc + MSc, or direct-entry after BSc with strong GPA/research.
  • Apply through the uOttawa Physics graduate program.
  • Funding: guaranteed stipend, RA/TA support, NSERC/OGS/Vanier awards encouraged.
  • Start: Fall/Winter, reviewed year-round.
MSc / MEng Students
  • Bachelor’s in physics, maths or related fields.
  • MSc: thesis-based (PhD track)
  • Funding: stipend for MSc; MEng usually self-funded.
  • Start: Fall/Winter intake; rolling consideration.
Undergrad / Visiting Interns
  • BSc students via NSERC USRA, Mitacs Globalink, co-op, or summer internships.
  • Duration: 4–16 weeks.
  • Good programming or lab skills are a plus, but not required.
  • Start: Summer/Fall, apply 3–5 months ahead.

Selection & Timing

We review applications continuously and invite shortlisted candidates for a brief talk to explain their work. Typical timelines are 2–6 weeks, depending on the role and season.

Funding & Support

Positions are fully funded. Competitive scholarships and fellowships are encouraged; we will support strong candidates for relevant programs.

Environment

We are co-located across the National Research Council of Canada and the University of Ottawa, with access to excellent computation facilities.

FAQ

Do I need prior quantum experience?

No. We value core strengths (e.g., optics, control, computing/ML, algorithms) and a willingness to learn. Tell us how your skills transfer.

Can I apply without publications?

Yes. For student roles, coursework, projects, or open-source work are great signals. Share links if applicable.

Where are you located?
